The view of the skyline in downtown New Orleans on Friday
DXC selected New Orleans out of at least 30 USA cities as the site of its new Digital Transformation Center based on technology ecosystem, commitment to IT workforce development, local economic strength and population diversity, among other criteria.
With the announcement of DXC Technology opening a digital transformation center, over 2,000 direct jobs will be created in New Orleans over the next seven to eight years. Rebecca Conwell, economic adviser for the Landrieu administration, said local universities have agreed to create course loads specific to the training needed for DXC's new hires.
Edwards announced that DXC Technology, based in Virginia, is expected to expand its business to the Crescent City.
One source told the Advocate, the business expansion represents "the most permanent jobs" for a single (LED) Louisiana Economic Development project in state history.
"We will bring in graduate-level employees as well as skilled professionals from outside but we'll bring them in with skills already tuned to serve us", Hilton said.
A "vast majority" of the jobs will be new positions added to the company's payroll, DXC spokesperson Rich Adamonis said in an email.
DXC is a publicly traded IT services company that was created in 2016 through a merger of two longstanding tech companies: Computer Sciences Corp. and the enterprise services segment of Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
To secure the project, Louisiana offered DXC an $US18.7 million ($F38m) incentive package in performance-based grants payable over five years, according to a statement from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards's office.
Virginia-based DXC Technology Co will develop the center to create digital services for its global clients, which total almost 6000 across 70 countries, the company said in a statement.
DXC serves almost 6,000 major clients across 70 countries, and the New Orleans center will support a global clientele, the news release said.
