Tory rebels vow to resist 'blood-curdling threats' over Brexit bill

Members will not be intimidated and they never should

MPs had their first chance to scrutinise the EU withdrawal bill, which would formally end Britain's membership of the European Union and transfer four decades of EU legislation into United Kingdom law.

The government were "boxing themselves into a corner" in using the bill to specify the exact date and time of Brexit - 23:00 GMT on 29 March 2019 - he said, because the United Kingdom would be "hamstrung" if the negotiations needed to be extended at the last minute.

Fabulous collection of some of the best MPs in the country.

The Committee stage of the Withdrawal Bill, where MPs propose amendments, and the details of parliamentary bills are thrashed out, will take place today and tomorrow.

The MPs were pictured smiling on the front of the Telegraph after they indicated they would vote against Theresa May's efforts to fix the date of Brexit on 29 March 2019.

On Tuesday, prominent Remain-supporting Tories also focused their anger on an amendment tabled by the Government itself, which would include an European Union exit date of 11pm on 29 March, 2019 within the legislation.

Former finance minister Ken Clarke, a committed pro-European, said it would be "utterly foolish" not to leave this option open, however unlikely many commentators view it.

The government said it would ensure legal certainty when Britain leaves the bloc in March 2019.

Ministers have won the first votes on flagship Brexit legislation as they try to steer the EU Withdrawal Bill through Parliament.

The news report further adds that Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Hyderabad is looking into the matter. As well as being a hugely popular alternative to Google Chrome in its home region, UC Browser has an enormous base in India.

The Telegraph claimed at least 15 Tory MPs are ready to side with Labour and fight against the date of Brexit being enshrined in law.

A vote on that amendment was expected late Tuesday.

The showdown comes as the prime minister, who lost her parliamentary majority following the June election, struggles to assert her authority even over her own cabinet.

The EU (Withdrawal) Bill is a key part of the government's strategy for leaving the EU following last year's referendum.

Two others, including leading eurosceptic Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, are reportedly instructing May how to run Brexit.

May is also under increasing pressure from Brussels to come up with a financial offer to keep negotiations on track, with a crunch summit of European Union leaders looming in mid-December.

Ms Sturgeon said: "We oppose Brexit but we understand withdrawal legislation is necessary, so we want to find agreement".

Both Scotland's and Wales' devolved governments have expressed fears the "power grab" legislation will return responsibilities from Brussels to London, rather than to their countries' administrations.
