Amazon Australia Is Officially Here (For Real This Time, No Jokes, OK?)

Amazon launches in Australia

Australians have known Amazon would one day open its electronic doors since April but there was no indication of exactly when it would happen. Some of the deals and bargains available on Australian website at launch included a Nintendo switch console for $399 and the PlayStation 4 video game Federation Internationale de Football Association 18 for $40.But the user has made some complains that prices offered on Amazon's website are no cheaper than existing Australian department stores and some deals were more expensive.

The selection at Amazon.com.au includes products offered by large Australian brands, as well as small and medium-sized Australian businesses selling on Amazon Marketplace.

Some of the specials available on the website at launch included up to 30% off on select kids toys and board games, 30% off Calvin Klein men's and women's underwear, up to 20% off Sunbeam kitchen appliances and 30% off Tommy Hilfiger men's and women's polos.

"Over time, we will create thousands of new jobs and invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Australia".

Amazon Australia country manager, Rocco Braeuniger (pictured) said, "Focusing on customers and the long-term are key principles in Amazon's approach to retailing".

Amazon's Australian orders will be fulfilled out of the company's centre in Dandenong South in Victoria.

Christmas shopping is a huge time for Australian retail with shoppers this year expected to spend up to $56 billion in the Christmas shopping period.

Rolling Out with Credit Changes - Electronic Arts
This is an area we agree needed to be buffed a bit, especially when it comes to rewarding players for doing well in-game. Well an update has been announced today to shorten the long grind.

"Due to the terms of the agreement the number of deliveries this agreement may generate is now not determinable".

The global retail giant, initially tipped to launch on Black Friday, more than a week ago, instead progressively rolled out to users starting just after midnight.

The site will also give users access to Prime Video, Amazon's answer to Netflix.

Jim Power - consumer sector research analyst at Martin Currie, a division of asset management firm Legg Mason - noted that Australia's retail sector will cope with the arrival of Amazon.

"My main take away [from meeting United States retailers] was that Amazon's key advantage is that its strategy is driven by data, not gut feel, and the key source of this data is the Marketplace".

Previously, Amazon Australia had been paused as a bookseller, while internationally the marketplace grew into an e-commerce giant. "I think this may prove hard".
