Pochettino says Spurs will learn from poor run

Real Madrid victory may have gone to our head, admits Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham can build momentum against APOEL – Mauricio Pochettino

"Of course we are going to rotate the starting XI but Dele is going to play because he missed three Champions League games and I think he needs to play and he's fresh to play".

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has hit the heights, notably with his two-goal performance in the 3-1 Champions League win over Real Madrid at Wembley last month, but there have been other occasions when he has laboured.

Mauricio Pochettino will rest Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane for Apoel's visit to Wembley, while Toby Alderweireld (hamstring), Victor Wanyama (knee) and Erik Lamela (ineligible) are unavailable.

"This has been a good opportunity to learn more about myself as a player and as a person and now it's essential that I keep working hard and trying to improve every day".

The 21-year-old was one of the stars of Tottenham's Premier League campaign last season, scoring 18 goals in 37 games as his side finished second behind Chelsea.

However, midfielder Dele Alli will play as he attempts to regain his form after an indifferent start to the season.

"No, I'm not anxious because the performances were good", Pochettino said.

Pochettino has named two academy youngsters in his squad - the midfielder Luke Amos and the striker Kazaiah Sterling - and he is ready to give a first Champions League start to George-Kévin Nkoudou, the winger who has struggled since his transfer from Marseille in the summer of previous year.

Spurs have already secured first place in Group H, meaning the likes of Fernando Llorente, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Juan Foyth are expected to be given a chance.

But he has struggled to make an impact in any of his five Premier League appearances since then and admitted: "We're all disappointed with recent results".

"No, I'm not anxious because the performances were good", he said. "We've got a great team, a great manager, great staff, so we're looking forward to getting into the next game and getting going".

"The most important thing now is to start to perform in the way we did against Madrid, Dortmund and Liverpool when we were fantastic".
