Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

Flynn texted partners about nuclear plan during inauguration, whistleblower says

As Donald Trump delivered his presidential inaugural address last January, his national security adviser, Michael Flynn, told a former business associate in text messages that a private plan to build nuclear reactors in the Mideast was "good to go" and that US sanctions hobbling the plan would soon be "ripped up", a whistleblower told congressional investigators.

The account is from a whistleblower made public for the first time today.

Mr. Cummings sent the letter to the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Committee, Trey Gowdy, Republican of SC, and asked him to investigate the whistle-blower's claims.

President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn told a former business associate that sanctions against Russian Federation would be "ripped up" early in the new presidency, according to a whistle-blower's account made public on Wednesday.

The nuclear project that Flynn and his business associate had worked on together was stymied by USA financial sanctions on Russian Federation. Cummings wrote that an "authentic, credible, and reliable" source had brought him information regarding the retired Army lieutenant general. Mr. Cummings said that Mr. Gowdy should subpoena Mr. Flynn, Mr. Copson and four others to testify before the panel.

The letter says Flynn blamed Obama for having 'f***** everything up in my nuclear deal with the sanctions'. These grave allegations compel a full, credible, and bipartisan congressional investigation, ' Cummings wrote.

He said Gowdy's handling of the matter sharply contrasts with the lengthy inquiry he led into allegations about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's role in the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, "that were debunked years ago". A lawyer for Mr. Flynn declined to comment.

As the whistleblower chatted with Flynn's associate during an Inauguration Day celebration on January 20, Flynn sent texts saying the associate's nuclear proposal was "good to go", the whistleblower said.

After getting the texts, Copson said, "Mike has been putting everything in place for us", and, "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", Cummings said, quoting the witness.

The whistleblower said Copson showed him his phone with Flynn's text message; it was sent at 12:11 p.m., about 10 minutes into Trump's inaugural speech.

According to the whistleblower account, Copson said Flynn was making sure sanctions would be 'ripped up, ' which would allow money to start flowing to the project.

Copson, according to the whistleblower, said Obama's sanctions had "f**ked everything up in my nuclear deal with the sanctions". Efforts to reach Copson were unsuccessful.

It gave Flynn a potential monetary incentive to get sanctions imposed on Russian Federation during the Obama administration lifted immediately. Flynn originally told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that the issue of sanctions had not come up in his conversation.

The letter from Cummings concluded with a request to issue subpoenas for "all documents and communications referring or relating" to Flynn's foreign contacts during the Trump campaign, the transition period and his brief time as national security adviser.
