US plans to move its Israel embassy to Jerusalem are a sign of incompetence and failure, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, reported Reuters.
"And the deprivation of the oppressed Palestinian people from their primary rights in forming an independent Palestinian government with the noble Quds as its capital", it said, using the Arabic name for Jerusalem.
During his election campaign a year ago, Trump repeatedly promised to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Israel occupied al-Quds in 1967. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns this act and calls on the global organizations, influential countries, and especially the Islamic states, to maintain the stability of the region and prevent the United States from doing so, which is only for the benefit of the Zionist regime.
Speaking to an audience of Iranian officials and ambassadors of Muslim countries to Iran, Khamenei stressed that "Zionists" would be unable to achieve their goals, and that Palestine would be finally liberated.
In the meantime, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is illegal and would further destabilize Palestine and the Middle East region.
As part of a "day of rage" announced jointly by Hamas, Fatah and other groups, Palestinian activists on Wednesday burned pictures of Trump and the Israeli flag.
He also hailed the Turkish president's initiative to hold an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul to discuss the Palestinian issue, saying Iran has accepted the invitation to attend the summit, Tasnim News Agency reported.
