Marvel Gets Into Fiction Podcast Game With Wolverine: The Long Night
The show's cast includes actors Richard Armitage, best known for his role as Thorin Oakenshield in "The Hobbit" film trilogy, Scott Adsit of "30 Rock", Bob Balaban of "Moonrise Kingdom", and Brian Stokes Mitchell of "Mr. Robot".
"'Wolverine: The Long Night' brings our fans a whole new way to experience our iconic characters and the Marvel Universe", said Dan Silver, vice president, head of platforms and content for Marvel New Media.
Mashable reports that Marvel's iconic character Wolverine will be the star of his own podcast come 2018.
Wolverine: The Long Night will be released on Stitcher in spring of 2018, and will hit wide release on other platforms in fall of 2018. Instead, it will launch available exclusively on Stitcher Premium, a podcast subscription service.
"Podcasting is an incredible, intimate medium that's ideal for telling stories, and I can't think of a better partner with whom to push the boundaries of scripted podcasts than Marvel", Erik Diehn, chief executive officer of Midroll Media, Stitcher's parent company, said in a statement to Mashable. Teaming up with a local deputy, they zero in on a prime suspect in the corrupt and creepy town: Logan, AKA The Wolverine. It will follow two federal agents on the hunt of a serial killer in Alaska and the only trail they have led to Logan. Marvel has dabbled in audio books based on comics before, but this is a bit higher profile - begging comparisons to Serial and drawing in Hollywood acting talent. "This tremendous cast will bring a thrilling level of intrigue and drama to our listeners".
Joining Armitage in the podcast series are Celia Keenan-Bolger and Ato Essandoh as the voices of the agents Sally Pierce and Tad Marshall. There will also be a cameo from the host of the Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People podcast, Chris Gethard.
Like most fans, writer Ben Percy is most excited with the casting of Richard Armitage as Wolverine.
