Fletcher replaces Singer on Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen Biopic Finds New Director After Bryan Singer's Firing

Dexter Fletcher

Fletcher was originally attached to the project during its early days, but according to the same source, left the production following creative differences. The actor-turned-director will complete the final weeks of the production and then oversee post-production.

Singer was sacked from the film because of a pattern of unreliability, culminating in him not returning from the Thanksgiving break and being AWOL for three days. That means Bohemian Rhapsody will hit theaters on December 25, 2018, as planned. After all, he's also lined up to make films about The Kinks and Elton John.

Ex-South Carolina cop's shooting of motorist was murder: judge
A bystander's cellphone video didn't capture the struggle but did show Slager firing into Scott as he was running away. On April 4, 2015, Slager stopped the auto Scott was driving in North Charleston for a broken rear brake light.

The biographical drama film focuses on the formation of the rock band Queen and the life of lead singer Freddie Mercury, who is portrayed by actor Rami Malek. Singer's reps disputed part of that narrative, claiming he has been dealing with a health issue with his mother, something that didn't sway the studio in making the switch. Fletcher's acting credits also include Bugsy Malone, Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, The Elephant Man, Muppets Most Wanted and more. With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the United States to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents.

The film has been shooting in London; on December 1 studio Twentieth Century Fox confirmed that due to the "unexpected unavailability" of Singer, the production had been put on hold. But the job didn't appeal to everyone. That didn't happen when films like World War Z and the Star Wars spinoff Rogue One had reshoots supervised by others. Fletcher is repped by WME and Independent.
