- In Illinois, local communities reported that 10,798 persons experienced homelessness on a single night in 2017, a decrease of 6.8 percent ( or 792 persons ) since previous year and a decrease of 25 percent ( or 3,597 ) since 2010.

Veteran homelessness decreased 4.25 percent since January 2016. It's an increase of 45 people from previous year.

At the same time, the report found that New Hampshire might be improving when it comes to addressing homelessness among individuals - the number of people on their own without a stable place to live fell by more than 50 percent from 2016.

76th anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack marked at Charlestown Navy Yard
The Henderson War Memorial Foundation believes information wasn't relayed to Pearl Harbor that could have helped defend the raid. In thinking about the lessons of Pearl Harbor, Larry said he hopes 'we can build up the military again'.

The numbers come from an annual report to Congress, released Wednesday, that is based on HUD-mandated "point in time" counts done every January in 3,000 cities and counties across America. Every year on a single night in January, tens of thousands of volunteers seek to identify the number of people, including families, living in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs and in unsheltered settings.

While 30 states and the District of Columbia saw decreases in their homeless numbers, 20 saw increases, including California, up 13.7 percent to 134,278.

The increases are due largely to spikes in the number of unsheltered homeless, according to the report.

"With rents rising faster than incomes, we need to bring everybody to the table to produce more affordable housing and ease the pressure that is forcing too many of our neighbors into our shelters and onto our streets", Carson suggested. Since 2010, however, veteran homelessness in IL declined by 23.7 percent and by almost 46% nationally.

- On a single night in January 2017, 864 veterans were experiencing homelessness.

The number of families with children experiencing homelessness declined 5.4 percent since 2016 and 27 percent since 2010.

The overall homeless population in west states of California, Oregon and Washington increased by 14 percent over the past two years, of which the part considered unsheltered jumped by 23 percent to approach 110,000.

The number of unaccompanied homeless youth and children in 2017 is estimated to be 40,799.
