Actors and actresses are however expected to turn out in black this year, in solidarity with victims of Weinstein and numerous other figures exposed by the harassment and abuse scandal, including Kevin Spacey, Brett Ratner and Dustin Hoffman.
Numerous stars - including the likes of Meryl Streep, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman - donned black as an expression of female empowerment and to declare that "time's up" on sexual harassment.
It's the first time The Late Night host has hosted the Golden Globes - and he didn't hold back.
Meyers, 44, hinted ahead of the awards ceremony that political banter would likely take a backseat during his opening remarks, in favor of addressing the issue of sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood.
Meyers addressed the audience with the quirky one-liner: "Good evening ladies and remaining gentlemen". "It's gonna be a good year". "Theres a new era underway and I can tell because its been years since a white man was this nervous in Hollywood". But if it was going to be a man cracking jokes about systemic sexism and inequality in Hollywood, at least the gig went to one who knows when to hand the duty off to those more intrinsically capable of landing the punchlines.
As Meyers himself acknowledged, this was a year that might have been better served by having a woman host. Some of Meyers' most pointed jabs at disgraced mogul Harvey Weinstein and House of Cards star Kevin Spacey were met with gasps and groans.
Dressed in a black off-the-shoulder gown, she told E!: 'I think people are aware now of a power imbalance and that is something that leads to abuse. Meyers also made a few jokes at the expense of President Donald Trump, despite previously claiming he wouldn't.
Later on, when speaking with Call Me By Your Name's Armie Hammer, Seacrest ended the interview by saying, "I see your Time's Up pin right there".
"I hope he can do a Southern accent because Kevin Spacey sure couldn't", Meyers quipped, amidst gasps from the crowd.
"It's an incredible opportunity to get to go with a friend, an activist, someone who can have our voices together because we've been separated for so long. and how much louder and stronger our voices can be when we come together", Portman said.
"But the fact that it has now received positive reviews despite the emergency re-shoots might (have) inspired them to actually give the film a win, and Plummer is the logical choice for the impressive feat of taking on an emotionally demanding role at the 11th hour at age 87".
