UPDATE: The power's back on at CES
Power outage causes attendees to evacuate Central Hall at CES in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Jan. 10th, 2018. It was raining in Las Vegas on Monday and Tuesday - rare for a desert city. "We will continue to restrict access until full power has been restored".
The power failure came after heavy rain a day earlier, which had forced Google to shut one of its booths installed in the convention center's vehicle park.
Authorities were able to restore power within minutes of the report.
Public service announcements played over an intercom thanking attendees for their patience while the work to resolve the issue continued.
According to a statement from CES organizers, power went out at around 11:15 in the morning on January 10. Both large and smaller ones rely on the annual trade show to ink deals that will translate to cash months in the future; the blackout disrupted some of the product demos, panels and meetings key to those deals.
Rents boost USA core CPI; retail sales rise solidly
The pullback in energy prices came as gasoline prices tumbled by 2.7% in December following a 7.3% jump in the previous month. Prices for US Treasuries fell, with the yield on the interest-rate sensitive two-year note rising to the highest since 2008.
The CTA also added, much less helpfully, "While we work through this isolated power outage feel free to visit our exhibitors in South Hall and North Hall".
As Bloomberg notes, even with all the next-level technology present at the CES, it would seem that the event was still not safe from the enemy of all electronics: a blackout.
Some false info. Event staffer #CES2018 who told me power was down in all halls at LVCC was wrong.
Introducing Blackout™: The biggest thing to hit #CES2018 since #5G.
Dozens of reporters queued quietly for lunch boxes in a darkened press room in South Hall.
