Arpaio said on Twitter he would be "unwavering" in his support of the agenda of Donald Trump, who issued a controversial pardon on his behalf previous year. Dr. Kelli Ward, a former Arizona State Senator, announced a run for the seat past year after unsuccessfully running against Republican John McCain in 2016.

As the Trump administration and Congress negotiate a legislative fix to save the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Arpaio offered the Examiner his own solution. In announcing his bid, Arpaio immediately positioned himself as a staunch supporter of Trump, who won Arizona by 5 percentage points in the 2016 presidential election. "And I think the people of Arizona who really know him best would agree with me".

"What ego? You guys forgot me the day I left office anyway".

"Being a U.S. senator is a little different than being the sheriff, because you can do a lot of things in the U.S. Senate, and I have many plans, believe me".

Arpaio, dubbed "America's toughest sheriff" for his anti-crime stances, was found guilty of criminal contempt of court past year for disobeying a judge's 2011 order to stop patrols that targeted illegal immigrants.

"You see, this is a very personal email, and I need my most trusted and dependable supporters to help me get it right, because President Trump needs my help, and I have to make a very big decision. very soon", the email said before going on to solicit donations to his defense fund. Mr. Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt in 2017, after he spent years flagrantly ignoring a court order to stop profiling and detaining people he suspected were undocumented immigrants.

Arpaio, 85, was pardoned by President Trump this past August.

Weather: Flood warnings as Storm Eleanor batters Britain's coast
The unsafe conditions could lead to injuries and a danger of life, as materials and objects go flying. High tides and large waves means there is a risk of flooding, said the Environment Agency.

Doocy was eager to help cast Arpaio as an acolyte of Trump, who receives nearly nothing but fawning coverage on Fox & Friends, a show he regularly live-tweets.

And so is Seagal, whose account is much more, shall we say, compelling, as he told a local news station: "Animal cruelty is one of my pet peeves, I came in on the 150 and we broke down the gate", Seagal said of riding an MCSO tank onto Sanchez's property. Kelli Ward and U.S. Sen.

Arpaio's reign ended when a relatively unknown Phoenix police sergeant defeated Arpaio in the 2016 sheriff election, despite Arpaio raising over $12.6 million to his rival's $1 million. Jeff Flake's seat. State Sen.

Arpaio is also a committed birther.

Rep. Martha McSally hasn't officially announced she is running but in November she told her Republican colleagues that she has plans to do so. Together, we will defeat Sheriff Joe's risky actions and exhausted rhetoric.

David Berman, a senior research fellow at Arizona State University's Morrison Institute of Public Policy, said if Arpaio follows through on his announcement, his candidacy will likely hurt Ward's chances.
