Mumbai: In a fresh development, Mumbai Police have cancelled an event that was to be attended by newly-elected Gujarat MLA and Dalit crusader Jignesh Mevani and JNU student leader Umar Khalid, amid massive protests at the venue.
Mumbai Police swooped on the Bhaidas Hall, in the posh western suburb of Vile Parle on Thursday morning, and stopped the Left-leaning Chhatra Bharati's All India Students Summit which was scheduled to be addressed by Khalid and Mewani. The police also detained few students and event organisers who protested the cancellation of the event.
"We had assured the police that there would be no speech that would incite any law and order problem".
The FIR against Mevani and Khalid was registered at Pune's Vishrambag police station, under whose jurisdiction the Parishad was held, on a complaint filed by Akshay Bikkad (22) and Anand Dhond (25), who claimed not to be affiliated with any organisation.
Police has also added that they were analyzing speeches of duo in reference to complaint. The Bandh had paralysed large parts of Maharashtra, with a minor boy killedin Nanded and several others injured in Pune, Mumbai in sporadic incidents of violence.
Chhatra Bharati Vice President Sagar Bhalerao said the day-long event was planned long ago in which both Mewani, Khalid and others were listed speakers. Based on the complaint, offences were registered against Mevani and Khalid under IPC sections 153 (a) (delivering speech to create disharmony or feelings of enmity), section 505 (giving statement conducing to public mischief) and 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public or by more than ten persons), the police official said. "We follow not only Savitribai Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar but also Bhagat Singh", Mevani said. Chavan, a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, sought to know why action was taken against the students while those responsible for the January 1 violence in Pune were not arrested. The Republican Party of India has chose to stage dharnas outside all police stations in Mumbai.
Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of BR Ambedkar, called for a strike across Maharashtra on Wednesday, The Times of India reported.

Call of Duty: WWII Zombies - The Darkest Shore Trailer
Players will need to battle through an island that is covered in fog, infested by zombies, and surrounded by the German army. I'd still like to see a full blown Zombies title someday, preferably by Treyarch but I will take what I can get.
