Florida man claims $450 million Mega Millions jackpot
A 20-year-old Florida man became an instant multi-millionaire last Friday upon discovering he won the $450 million Mega Millions jackpot. And while he didn't come forward until Friday, it's pretty clear he knew what had happened much earlier, according to WFLA.
A believer in the power of a positive mindset, Shane wasn't really surprised that he had won, according to the Florida Lottery.
The winning numbers were 28, 30, 39, 59, and 70 with a "Mega Ball" of 10.
The $451 million jackpot is the fourth largest jackpot in the 21-year history of the Mega Millions and the second largest jackpot won by a single ticket.
"Oh. My. God." Shane Missler wrote on his Facebook page January 5, mere hours after the Mega Millions draw. "I look forward to the future".
In fact, Missler informed officials that after purchasing the ticket at the 7-Eleven convenience store on Ridge Road in Port Richey, about 40 miles northwest of Tampa, he had "a feeling" he would win the jackpot. That same weekend, the Powerball jackpot had ballooned to more than $570 million, and there was a sole victor for that jackpot with a ticket bought in New Hampshire.
His lawyers told WFLA that he retired from his job at a background screening firm. His online presence is overwhelmingly uplifting, with inspirational quotes dotting a Twitter feed and the bio section of a sparsely updated Instagram account reading: "I wake up everyday saying "Thank you" and "Chase your dreams".
"The Florida Lottery is proud to congratulate our second MEGA MILLIONS jackpot victor", said Secretary Jim Poppell.
The 7-Eleven will receive a $100,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
