At the tail end of 2017, we reported on the disastrous news of an innocent man being shot and killed after getting inadvertently tied to a swatting "prank" gone horribly wrong following an online Call of Duty match.

A California man accused of making a hoax emergency call that led to the fatal police shooting of an unarmed man in Kansas has been extradited to face charges. He was also charged with giving false alarm and interference with a law enforcement officer.

Barriss was arrested the next day in Los Angeles.

As of writing, the length of his sentence is still unknown and will re-appear in court on January 25th. He was booked in Sedgwick County Jail on Thursday afternoon, according to The Wichita Eagle, and his bond is $500,000. Instead, Andrew Finch, 28, opened his front door when he saw police lights outside and didn't know why. "He doesn't play video games", Finch said.

"As you might imagine anytime computers and gaming machines are involved, there's a fair bit of forensic analysis involved", he said.

Feds spare Syracuse homeless program that forfeited $5.1 million
Local Massachusetts communities also report the number of persons experiencing long-term chronic homelessness decreased. Homelessness has risen this winter, with more people being listed without a permanent address.

Authorities allege that a dispute over an online video game led Barriss to call a Wichita, Kan., police dispatcher and falsely claim that he had shot his father and was holding two other people hostage inside a Wichita home on December 28.

The false call made by Barriss is believed to have been the result of an online dispute between two Call of Duty players. After this incident, an arrest was later made, and now the suspect has officially been charged with involuntary manslaughter for having his hand in the events that led to a person's death.

"Swatting" is the term used when someone calls police with a false report of an ongoing crime.

Calgary tactical officers descended on the neighborhood, evacuating the surrounding area before a woman at the home also called police to warn them she believed she was the target of a fake call.
