From Reagan to Trump, and maybe Oprah, US celebrity politicians abound

Most Americans'don't want Oprah to run for president

President Donald Trump says he would beat Oprah Winfrey in a presidential contest but doesn't think she will run.

"This woman, I love @oprah and I wish I had the words to expert how she motivates me".

But he added: "Yeah, I'll beat Oprah".

"I did not think they would be talking about it in presidential terms", King said on CBS This Morning of Oprah's speech, as People notes.

Oprah Winfrey's best friend, Gayle King, is downplaying any suggestion that Winfrey might run for president.

"Stedman says that he thought the reporter said to him 'Would she make a good president?' And he said 'Absolutely she would.' That's how he interpreted the question, because this is the thing - Stedman would never so cavalierly say absolutely she would do it.

In fact, King says that Oprah didn't even intend for her speech to be "political".

According to poll, 55% of all voters view Winfrey favorably, including 27% who view the media mogul very favorably and those stats are on par with 2011 polling results when she announced she was ending her syndicated talk show after 25 years. "Someone from his team reached out to her to see if she would talk to him, and she said she would if it was for an interview".

The White House continued to field questions about a potential Winfrey candidacy Tuesday afternoon. "I have no qualifications to run, '" she explained, adding: "I'm feeling pretty qualified".

Trump says US gets 'no appreciation' from Palestinians, threatens to withhold aid
The president accused Pakistani leaders of giving "safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help". Abbas had earlier said that they would not accept any peace plan from the United States , after Trump's Jerusalem move.

Winfrey, in September and October, publicly dismissed the notion of seeking the nation's highest office, though she noted that Trump's victory made her rethink the requirements of the office.

Jimmy Kimmel, host of the Late Night Show, reacted saying, "Given the choice between Oprah and our current president, I'm on the bus with Oprah travelling the country encouraging people to sign up and vote".

In 1988, Trump appeared on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" to promote his then just-released business book-cum-memoir, "The Art of the Deal".

"It's up to the people", Graham told The Los Angeles Times.

The following day, first daughter Ivanka Trump tweeted: "Just saw Oprah's empowering & inspiring speech at last night's GoldenGlobes". "I 100% know who I used to work for".

"And he said, "Absolutely, she would".

He said Winfrey's huge public profile would be of a benefit to her.

"She writes her column every month in the magazine".

'I think Oprah would be great, ' he said. "At the same time, politics is ridiculous right now".
