Since 2016, Samsung and Huawei have been embroiled in heated legal battles with one particular suit from the latter claiming Samsung violated "multiple" wireless communication device patents.
It looks as if the firm will launch the phone without a carrier partner - but most United States consumers buy their phones through a carrier. It is expected to launch big in the United States, but carrier partner AT&T dropped off of the deal at the last minute.
However, it dismissed compensation claims made by Huawei and said that Samsung would be permitted an appeal. The letter also cited apprehension regarding a pending deal between Huawei and an unnamed American telecommunications company.
Huawei, which launched the Mate 10 Pro at CES this week, a top-end model that aims to compete with Apple and Samsung, will still be able to sell products via open channels, although these account for only around 10% of the market.
But plans of a business deal evaporated this week after concerns about security and ties to the Chinese government, according to reports by The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
AT&T was pressured to drop the deal after members of the U.S. Senate and House intelligence committees sent a letter on December 20 to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) citing concerns about Huawei's plans to launch consumer products through a major U.S. telecom carrier.
