Disney Lucasfilm Director Rian Johnson on the set of"The Last Jedi
The Last Jedi painted some aspects of Star Wars into a corner, and it's hard to fathom how Abrams will resolve the biggest issues the series now faces when he delivers the sequel trilogy's concluding chapter in 2019.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi may have left even the most ardent supporters of the film with more questions than answers, but one of the mysteries that has been frequently mentioned in conversations about Episode VII involves the climactic showdown between Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren. But this movie I've seen now a couple times with an audience. Plus, the original ending of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now firmly planted as an icon, so good luck reimagining it. The 2015 premiere of "The Force Awakens" is the only movie with a bigger opening box-office weekend in the USA than "The Last Jedi", and its success has often been attributed to the amount of nostalgia stitched into it, with several thematic callbacks to "A New Hope", the 1977 original.
Rian Johnson, the director of the "The Last Jedi", denied he wanted to come back for the ninth film.
"I typed Episode VIII out on a MacBook Air". At the end of the film (are we still doing spoiler warnings?) we learn that the LukeSkywalker that we've been seeing on the surface of Crait isn't actually there, but instead a sort of projection created by Luke on Ahch-To. Hamill noted that he was shocked to hear that Johnson make his character, normally so full of optimism and hope, become so distant from his past beliefs.

With all of the creative risks that were taken in this installment, it is clear that the movie constantly demonstrates a theme of leaving the past behind. Recently on Twitter, a debate started up regarding whether or not this really worked in the film, considering the ability to do such a thing had never been previously hinted at in the StarWars franchise.
Now it's learned Star Wars: The Last Jedi editor Bob Ducsay admitted to second thoughts about how the death of Ackbar went down.

Channing Tatum's cursed Gambit movie loses yet another director
That shuffling at the top has prompted repeated delays in the film's production, which has been in active development since 2014. After news broke of Verbinski's exit, Fox said Gambit has pushed back its release date of February 14, 2019, to June 7, 2019.
