US Ambassador To Panama Resigned BEFORE S**thole Comments

US ambassador resigns, says he can no longer serve under Trump

The U.S. ambassador to Panama is stepping down, saying he can't faithfully serve the Trump administration apolitically.

The Department of State confirmed the departure of John D. Feeley, a career diplomat and former Navy helicopter pilot, stating that the ambassador chose to retire for personal reasons.

The reports of the resignation comes just hours after the U.S. ambassador to Botswana was summoned as disparaging remarks Trump is alleged to have made about Africa and Haiti which sparked global furor.

Feely is a career diplomat and U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot veteran who acknowledged in his resignation letter that he believed he could no longer serve apolitically in the Trump administration.

The resignation was made before Trump was publicly revealed to have described nations in Africa as well as Haiti as "s--hole countries".

Paul Ryan says Trump's slur against African countries is 'unfortunate, unhelpful'
The African Union and several Democratic lawmakers slammed Trump for his comments and described them as "racist". "What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!" the president tweeted .

In other words, news outlets say Feeley isn't leaving because of the foul language President Donald Trump reportedly used about other countries. "That time has come", Feeley wrote in his letter dated January 11, Reuters reported.

Trump said he'd prefer to receive immigrants from countries like Norway.

While some have speculated that Feeley's decision was influenced by Trump's comments, a senior State Department official separately told Newsweek that was not the case. "If the ambassador feels that he can no longer serve... then he has made the right decision for himself and we respect that".

Feeley's resignation was submitted prior to Thursday's controversial remarks.
