Winter Storm Watch In Effect For Friday

There's a Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday night until 10 a.m. Friday for southeastern Minnesota and northeastern Iowa.

Rain and a few storms will be ongoing Thursday evening with a switchover to sleet and freezing rain after midnight for northeast Arkansas.

"Rain will change to a brief period of freezing rain and sleet by Saturday afternoon", the service said. Highs will reach the upper 20s on Friday.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh is warning people about possible flooding and severe weather in the next several days. In western mountains and in northern ME, from roughly Dover-Foxcroft and Lincoln north, between a couple of inches and half a foot of snow could fall Saturday after the changeover from rain the night before.

There is a slight chance for snow or rain on Sunday while the high will be about 38 degrees.

The National Weather Service expects a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and a little snow to fall on parts of north Alabama later today, and it could make roads hazardous for travelers later.

A strong cold front was moving through the state on Friday morning, along with scattered rain.

Short-handed Spurs look to slow Lakers
The San Antonio Spurs pay a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers at the STAPLES Center on Thursday night. Sadly, that is the Lakers' record for their longest win streak of the season.

Power outages in Kentucky appeared to be sporadic. Those areas are also expected to have about 1/10 of an inch of ice accumulate. The Lake Cumberland area will also have to deal with some minor ice accumulations.

Scattered snow will continue to fall through Friday afternoon and should exit our eastern counties that evening. The temperature will soar to about 60 degrees, the weather service said.

Then, we will be watching for a potential snow storm around the middle of next week, stay tuned for more on that! Memphis and Shelby County will be on the line with nothing up to an inch. Snowfall could be heavy during the peak of the morning rush hour.

Snowfall will stop in southern IL between 6 and 9 A.M, but will continue until noon for west Kentucky. Breezy, with a north wind 14 to 21 miles per hour. Temperatures are expected to remain freezing until Sunday across the region.

The winter storm prompted Kentucky House and Senate leaders to call off Friday's legislative session. Winds 10-15 miles per hour will make it feel like 10-to-15 degrees. Accidents on the busy interstate led to long lines of parked vehicles as drivers waited for crews to clear the highway. "But the later they can come in the more it will allow that to happen".

There could be enough mid-level energy and moisture at the tail end of an associated cold front to produce some non-rain precipitation across portions of the South, too. Around 1-2 inches possible.

KYTC encourages motorists to closely watch weather forecasts as the storm arrives.
