Del Potro powers into NZ tennis semis
Waiting for Del Potro in the last four will be Spaniard Ferrer, who brushed aside ATP NextGen Finals champion Chung Hyeon of South Korea 6-3 6-2.
Juan Martin del Potro overcame a stubborn challenge from David Ferrer to clinch their semifinal 6-4 6-4 and advance to a title showdown against Roberto Bautista Agut in the Auckland Classic on Friday.
The 29-year-old del Potro, an ex-US Open champion and the 2009 Classic victor, will face another ex-champion in Ferrer.
He cruised through a first-set tiebreaker after both players could not break serve, before seizing the initiative at the start of the second set.
A potential final against Juan Martin del Potro awaits.
In Sydney, 18-year-old Alex de Minaur continued to delight the home crowd with a 6-4 6-4 win against Feliciano Lopez and will face Benoit Paire in the semi-finals, after the Frenchman knocked out defending champion Gilles Muller.
Making A Model With Yolanda Hadid
In a sisterly fashion moment yesterday, Gigi and Bella Hadid stepped out in style to celebrate Yolanda Hadid's 54th birthday. He was later spotted spending quality time with Hailey Baldwin after Kenny J allegedly moved on to rapper A$AP Rocky.
"I had luck to break his serves twice and that's it, then I held my serve in all the second set, saving break points, playing good tennis down the line, and I had to take a risk playing against David because he's a fighter", del Potro said.
In preparation for the Australian Open, starting January 15, Del Potro proved just too strong for the Canadian and won 6-2, 6-4.
"Bautista Agut is a risky player, he has experience in finals and he beat me in the past (at the 2014 Australian Open), so it's going to be hard".
The second-seeded del Potro will aim for his first Classic title since 2009, while the 29-year-old Bautista Agut will seek his second crown in three years.
"I was surprised by the match today", said Del Potro, who had lost to Shapovalov in Montreal last August.
"If he has a good day, he is very risky as a lefty, he serves well and volleys".

Reasons Why The Eagles Will Beat The Falcons In The Playoffs
The Eagles now have won 16 straight games when leading after three quarters, even if their 12-10 at the time didn't feel so safe. One of the key reasons why the Eagles have been effective running the ball is due to their running back-by-committee system.
