Mario invades Google Maps to help you avoid bananas while driving

Mario Day event starts popping up in Google Maps for some

After teasing the feature on Twitter, with the use of four banana emoji and a red auto, Google has begun rolling a Mario Kart Easter Egg to the Google Maps app on iOS and Android. If there's a sudden spike in people going outdoors this weekend, now you know why. After all, adding anything else could turn this into more of a distraction than a mere novelty, which definitely isn't something you want out of a navigation app. Mario will be available in Google Maps for the next week, giving you plenty of time to see everyone's favorite plumber drive around real-world locations.

"You'll need to install the newest version of the app for iPhone or Android-and then tap a yellow "?" icon-to unlock Mario's cameo. After that's turned on, you'll see that the navigation arrow has been replaced by Mario. If you've recently downloaded the app to give the game a try, we recommend you hold off until the discount goes live. Just do not forget to practice safe driving on the road-we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life!

Google has been known to sprinkle in Easter eggs on Google Maps to commemorate events and special occasions, but the most recent surprise might be the best yet.

Further, Joe Belfiore stated that there was confusion about this version of the OS from Microsoft's partners and consumers. Microsoft's Windows 10 S FAQ has explained that switching from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro is a one-way switch.

It's a shame you can't choose various characters from the Super Mario Kart game, but this is Mario Day after all - not Toad or Bowser Day. Make sure not to post any personal details like where you live or work.
