Amanda Nunes to battle Raquel Pennington at UFC224

Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington official for UFC 224

As of today though, the UFC officially confirmed that Amanda Nunes will put her women's bantamweight title on the line against Raquel Pennington.

Her most high-profile fight came against Holly Holm at UFC 184 on February 28, 2015, a bout she lost after the judges ruled in favor of a split decision.

The UFC made an official announcement Thursday. White had said after Cyborg's win at UFC 222 that he was considering that fight and that it "needs to happen". Most recently, Nunes outpointed Valentina Shevchenko by split decision in September at UFC 215, rebounding after a bout of sinusitis that scratched a previous headliner between the two. She cuts a tremendous amount of weight to make the featherweight limit of 145 pounds, so the UFC decided on Nunes-Pennington. Pennington (9-5) has slowly worked her way up the bantamweight rankings and is now on a four-fight winning streak. She has also beaten Elizabeth Phillips, Bethe Correia and Jessica Andrade during the streak. Nunes wants the fight, she wants the fight, I want the fight, I'm sure the fans want to see it, too.

Arms imports to Middle East doubled over past decade, study shows

Following "Cyborg's" win over Yana Kunitskaya last weekend at UFC 222, Dana White said that an expected bout between Nunes and Pennington could be iced, as a means to book "Cyborg" - Nunes. However, Cyborg expressed when asked about that possibility that it was just too soon.

UFC 224 takes place May 12 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

UFC 224 will also see Vitor Belfort take on fellow legend, Lyoto Machida, and Kelvin Gastelum battle "Jacare" Souza.
