Jammu and Kashmir'sFinance Minister Haseeb Drabu was "shell-shocked" when one of his close aides called to tell him that his party had chose to take a tough stand on his comments and remove him from the council of ministers in PDP-BJP collation government, a source close to the minister said. "We had served a show-cause notice to Drabu Sunday to which he did not reply", a senior PDP minister told ThePrint. Malik claimed Drabu used to talk to him for hours before joining mainstream and while "praising JKLF's efforts for liberation of Jammu and Kashmir from illegal occupation of India", he presented ideas and concepts for it.
"The decision (to drop him) was taken by the chief minister on Monday". However, the party eventually chose to elevate Mehbooba as the CM. Drabu's assertions evoked sharp criticism from the opposition National Conference and separatist leader Yasin Malik.
While addressing an event themed "Kashmir: the way forward", Drabu had asked people to "introspect" over the nature and origins of the situation in the state and how it can be resolved.
"Anyone that goes against the Party's manifesto and agenda won't be tolerated", Said a Senior Party Leader. "Therefore you are advised to explain as to why a statement detrimental to party interests was made", read a notice issued by chairman of PDP's disciplinary committee A.R. Veeri to Drabu.
The business community in the Valley hit out at the finance minister for his statement, saying they (remarks) were far from the truth as the whole world recognised it as a political issue pending a solution for the last 70 years. "These ministers, including Haseeb Drabu, are well read and know what they are talking about", Sagar said.
"It is a setback to the alliance", the BJP leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.
"First the PDP violated the mandate of 2014 by entering into an opportunistic alliance with a party it had sought votes against and today the same party finally lets the cat out of the bag by declaring everything it stood for till now was apparently akin to "barking up the wrong tree" as said by Dr. Haseeb Drabu".
However, sources said Mehbooba and those close to her didn't trust him and suspected him of being close to the BJP and RSS.
