French haute couture fashion designer, Hubert de Givenchy has died, confirmed Givenchy brand.

Hepburn and Mr. Givenchy created one of the most indelible cinematic fashion moments of the 20th century in "Breakfast at Tiffany's", when her character Holly Golightly approaches the titular Fifth Avenue jeweler wearing oversize sunglasses, four strands of sparkling pearls, long evening gloves and a black Givenchy dress - a slender, shoulder-baring column - that looks startlingly out of place for the early morning hour. Venet verified that Givenchy died in his sleep on Saturday. "He is far more than a couturier, he is a creator of personality".

"Not only was he one of the most influential fashion figures of our time, whose legacy still influences modern day dressing, but he also was one of the chicest most charming men I have ever met".

"He revolutionized worldwide fashion with the timelessly stylish looks he created for Audrey Hepburn, his great friend and muse for over 40 years", the house of Givenchy said.

Audrey Hepburn was a long-time friend and muse to designer Hubert de Givenchy.

He even designed what is regarded as the most famous "little black dress" for her in the film Breakfast at Tiffany, though his Parisian rival Coco Chanel is credited with inventing the LBD.

Givenchy set the template for ladylike chic in the 1950s and 1960s, and his restrained style still informs the way Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and older American and Chinese socialites dress.

Givenchy ready-to-wear collection debuted in 1954, and de Givenchy went on to create the iconic "Balloon coat" and the "Baby Doll" dress in 1958.

In 1969, the designer launched a menswear line called Givenchy Gentleman.

In 1988, the Givenchy brand was eventually sold to LVMH, a luxury brand that owns companies like Moet, Loius Vuitton, and others. It went on to acquire Givenchy Parfumes later too.

He was replaced by John Galliano, who was soon to leave for Dior, handing over to fellow Brit Alexander McQueen.

The designer's nephews and nieces, and their children, share Mr Venet's grief, his statement added.
