LEGEND Comedian Ken Dodd has died
British comedian Ken Dodd, whose seven-decade career stretched from the music-hall era to the age of social media, has died, his publicist said Monday.
The Liverpudlian stand up, from Knotty Ash, married his partner of 40 years Anne Jones on Friday at their house.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, his agent, Robert Holmes said of the star who recieved his knighthood and celebrated his 90th birthday in 2017 "greatly appreciates all the support he has been given and continues to receive during his spell of ill-health". There is no one else that comes close.
He passed away in the home that he was born in more than 90 years ago - having never wanted to live anywhere other than Liverpool.
SIR KEN Dodd's affinity and rapport with his fans can be explained by the comedian's assertion that his was the "best job in the world because I can only see people smiling and laughing".
"He was a comedy legend and genius".
Ken Dodd was hospitalised earlier this year, but remained adamant that he would return to the stage.
During that time, Rosemarie has collected so much memorabilia and says: "My bedroom wall is absolutely covered with pictures of Ken. And he has special thanks for all the nurses and doctors who have looked after him so well".
"Especially the wonderful treatment that I have received from the dedicated team of NHS doctors and nurses at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital". He also ventured into TV shows including "The Ken Dodd Show", "Beyond Our Ken" and "Ken Dodd's Laughter Show".
He wrote: "One night he said "I'll follow you home and I'll shout jokes through your letterbox".
The comedian received knighthood a year ago. Even in his 80s, Dodd's shows often ran three to four hours.
Dodd's success drew the interest of the taxman, and in 1989 he endured a five-week trial accused of fraud.
He became Sir Ken Dodd after he was knighted past year (2017) for his services to entertainment and charity.
