But when he visited the state on Monday, the president was told that Idris did not spend up to 24 hours in the state.
Buhari had asked Idris to relocate to Benue shortly after 73 persons were killed in January by herdsmen. "I am genuinely anxious about the attacks in Benue and we are doing everything to end them", he said.
He, however, appealed to the president to create more time to come to the state on a social visit which would give him the opportunity to interact with the people to know more about their problems in order to tackle them.
He said that the insecurity in some states was a major concern to his government, adding that concerted efforts were being made to restore normalcy to every part of the country.
Buhari is scheduled to meet with the state Governor Samuel Ortom and stakeholders at the state's Government House.
Governor Samuel Ortom said the recent attacks had displaced 170,000 people with children of school age constituting 60 per cent.
He stated further that the burial will now take place next week Thursday.
The governor called on Buhari to support the enforcement of the Benue Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment law and appealed to the president to assist the state with soft loan and grant to enable the state clear it backlog of salaries. "People would believe me, but I will be disloyal if I do that".

One of the protesters, Jonah Kwaor, who described the operatives as overzealous, said, "We wanted the President to know the magnitude of the senseless killings in our communities, but security men, including the police, drove us away and seized some of our placards".
On her part, the representative of the civil society organisation Josephine Haba who said she is not only disappointed by the visit of the president bu she is also confused.
