Don't sleep Novak Djokovic could win it all at Indian Wells Masters

But at the same time, just didn't feel good at all.

Federer, who led by a set when play was halted due to rain at 2-2 on Saturday night, staved off a set point in a tiebreak to beat Delbonis 6-3 7-6 (8-6).

Federer is making his 17th appearance in the California desert and is assured of remaining world No. 1 if he makes it to the semifinals.

"I'm still not strong enough to go play a match".

Federer will face Serbia's Filip Krajinovic, a finalist at the Paris Masters in 2017, in the third round.

Federer and 10th seed Djokovic both came into the tournament seeking to become the first six-time victor of the event.

World No. 109 Taro Daniel sent the five-time BNP Paribas Open victor tumbling out of the event with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

It was another snag in the return for the 30-year-old Djokovic who admitted he was out of sorts while playing in just his second event of 2018.

Speaking to the media after the match, Djokovic said, "It felt like my first match on tour. Very weird. I completely lost rhythm", said the Serb.

Djokovic scrambled to win the second set but looked rusty on stadium court, making 62 unforced errors compared to 29 for Daniel.

North Carolina holds off Duke to advance to ACC title game
The Cavaliers have been that this season, going 17-1 in the ACC and sweeping their three games in the conference tournament. It's a one-and-done format that often isn't fair and has proven to not be the best evaluator of how good or bad a coach is.

Federer said he understands well how even a champion like Djokovic could be struggling to find his game so soon after having surgery.

"Unfortunately I have to pull out", Nishikori said. "When you go away from the game for over a two-month period, it starts feeling a little bit that way".

The defeat marked just the fifth time in the past decade when Djokovic lost to a player outside the ATP top 100.

"He just seems to be getting better and better, he's improving year on year and as we said earlier, he's won nine titles since coming back from that injury problem with the knee. He's only going to get better from here".

American Amanda Anisimova took down two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-2, 6-4 in a match lasting just over an hour to become the first 16-year-old to move into the fourth round at Indian Wells since Viktoriya Kutuzova in 2005.

Argentina's del Potro, who is fresh off winning the Mexican Open title in Acapulco, hammered five aces and broke de Minaur's serve five times.

Spanish veterans David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez recorded routine straight-sets wins over Tennys Sandgren and Ernesto Escobedo respectively while Philipp Kohlschreiber outlasted Tim Smyczek.

Yet he failed to serve out the opening set at 5-3 before losing it in a tiebreaker.

South African seventh seed Kevin Anderson also prevailed in his second round match, 7-5 6-4 over Russian Evgeny Donskoy.
