Novak Djokovic was making his first appearance since January

Novak Djokovic says something was ‘very weird’ during Indian Wells exit to world No. 109

But Djokovic fell at the first hurdle with a shock loss to Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel, who sent the out-of-sorts Serb tumbling with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/3) 4-6 6-1 victory. I just completely lost rhythm, everything.

Federer blasted six aces, had one double fault and won 89 percent of his first serve points, losing just three points on his serve the entire match.

Roger Federer was pushed by left-handed Argentine Federico Delbonis but won their second-round match at the season's first ATP Masters 1000 event.

His title defense got off to a soggy start Saturday night when play was suspended because of rain showers, with Federer up a set and tied 2-2 in the second.

"I was feeling like he was not loving my slice and I was also mixing in dropshots", said Federer who extended his flawless record this season to 14-0.

"It felt like first match I ever played on the tour", Djokovic said.

Women's Cricket: Australia beat India by eight wickets in 1st ODI
The hosts were off to a steady start with openers, Punam Raut (37) and Smriti Mandhana (12), putting on 38 runs in nine overs. During her tremendous innings, she produced 12 boundaries which anchored team's position in the early stage of the game.

Also, American Taylor Fritz defeated Fernando Verdasco of Spain, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7/1), Croatia's Borna Coric breezed past Roberto Bautista 6-1, 6-3 and Pablo Carreno-Busta of Spain, stopped Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 7-5.

Federer is making his 17th appearance in the California desert and is assured of remaining world No1 if he makes it to the semifinals.

Federer's decision to skip the clay a year ago paid off as it kept him fresh enough for another Wimbledon title and healthy for most of the last half of 2017.

Federer said he understands well how even a champion like Djokovic could be struggling to find his game so soon after having surgery. "But at the same time, I just didn't feel good at all", he added. "So I'm very happy how things are turning out to be". "You don't have pain, but you're still thinking about it".

"When you do come back from injury or when you haven't played in a long time, it just takes extra effort".

Kasatkina has beaten all four of the current Grand Slam champions in the past year: French Open victor Jelena Ostapenko, Australian Open victor Caroline Wozniacki, Wimbledon victor Garbine Muguruza and now Stephens. I'm very sorry as I love this tournament.
