Teams is Microsoft's challenger to Slack and other collaboration tools from tech rivals including Facebook, Amazon and Google. Along with unveiling the new Microsoft Teams features, the company said the number of organizations using Teams has grown since its launch a year ago from 50,000 to 200,000. In addition to several new AI features, Microsoft today announced that they will bring new enterprise-grade calling features to Teams later this year. The company shared today Teams will pick up consultative transfer and call delegation and federation features.
Going forward Microsoft plans to enable Teams on calling and meeting room devices for which the company is now working with OEMs like Lenovo and HP along with Logitech to bring the Teams on the meeting room devices.
And despite market concern at Cortana's future, Microsoft said it will add Cortana voice interactions for Teams-enabled devices. This includes Surface Hub, new desk phones from AudioCodes and Yealink and new conference room phones from Crestron, Polycom, and Yealink. In addition, Microsoft is certifying interoperability between Teams and existing BlueJeans Network, Pexip, and Polycom hardware solutions.
