Shortly after reports of running back Carlos Hyde agreeing to a free-agent contract with the Cleveland Browns hit the internet on Wednesday, an old tweet from Hyde resurfaced as well. In four seasons with San Francisco, Hyde rushed for 2,729 yards while averaging 4.17 yards per carry with 21 rushing scores. He also caught 54 passes for 632 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns have also signed former Detroit Lions tight end Darren Fells, and traded for cornerback Damarious Randall, who played his first three seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Originally a second-round choice in 2014, Hyde said repeatedly during the season that he hoped to remain with the only National Football League team he'd ever played for. The strong expectation is the Browns kick off the draft by selecting Sam Darnold out of USC.

After an 0-16 season, the hapless Browns suddenly became the aggressors, trading for Miami Dolphins Pro-Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry and Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Hue Jackson surrendering play calling duties was a good sign for the Browns this offseason. They were reportedly interested in former Patriots running back Dion Lewis before he agreed to a four-year, $20 million deal with the Titans on Tuesday. In addition, Hyde has also made 109 receptions for 634 yards and 3 touchdowns in that time with San Francisco.

But the real question here is whether or not signing Hyde will throw cold water on those rumors that the team might try and draft Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the first pick in the draft.

The Browns needed to sign a back, though, because Isaiah Crowell left via free agency. He was mostly a backup for his first two seasons. The closest he came was 988 in 2016 when he missed three games with various injuries. He went on to claim career high rushing TDs (8), carries (240), longest rush (61 yards), and total offensive yards (1288).
