Multiple teams reported to have interest in Malcolm Butler
The New Orleans Saints, who considered trying to acquire Butler before trading wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the Patriots previous year, have shown a renewed interest, per Dianna Russini of ESPN.
The defensive-minded coach coordinated in New England from 2012-17.
Butler's durability was impressive in his time with the Patriots, as he played 98.8 percent of the defensive snaps in 2015, followed by 96.7 and 97.8 the next two seasons.
Butler has forced four fumbles, picked off seven passes and defensed 44 of them over the last three seasons, while playing in all 48 games.
Butler's contract will be a five-year, $61 million deal with $30 million guaranteed, a source told NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. Butler is a well-known commodity to his new coaching and front office staffs; Mike Vrabel, a former Patriots linebacker will be his new head coach, while a former Patriots personnel staffer, Jon Robinson, is his new general manager.
Price of crude oil climbs in worldwide market
The oil prices are looking to continue their slump this week as the growing output numbers continue to drive investors wary. ICE gasoil, a benchmark for diesel fuel, changed hands at $571.75 a metric ton, up 0.6% from the previous settlement.
The news suggests Patricia, the only defensive coordinator Butler has played for in the National Football League, still thinks highly of the former undrafted free agent and Super Bowl XLIX hero despite Butler's benching in Super Bowl LII.
Some have wondered whether the 28-year-old's down season in 2017, capped by the now infamous Super Bowl benching, would limit his market in free agency, but there still appear to be plenty of suitors. The New Orleans Saints hosted Butler on a visit but never signed him to an offer sheet.
Butler is most famous for his interception at the goal line in Super Bowl 49 to seal the victory for the Patriots over the Seahawks.
Butler's departure leaves the Patriots with a need at cornerback this offseason.

However, he did his best work during the playoffs, where he caught 33 balls for 348 yards with two touchdowns in three games. A year ago was Amendola's best in a Patriots uniform with 61 catches for 659 yards and two touchdowns in the regular season.
