Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that the Government has set the aim to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from India by 2025. The Summit, will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, WHO South East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and Stop TB Partnership.

PM Modi reiterated that we should change our approach and try to focus on eliminating from TB from the country. He said, "The fact that several ministers from all states and concerned officers are present in the event here, indicate how we, as a Team India, are determined to eradicate TB from India". He said that today's welcome given by the people of Varanasi to Macron will inspire each and every French to think about visiting this city.

"This will be the world's largest government-funded health care programme". "India and France are working together to utilize solar power to meet the requirement of clean energy across the globe", said Modi while addressing a gathering of over 11,000 women at DLW grounds after hosting the French President Emmanuel Macron in his parliamentary constituency on Monday evening.

He also congratulated all frontline TB physicians and workers as well as those affected by the disease for their determination to defeat TB through proper medication.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, the BJP fielded three candidates on its mandate to counter a possible move by the Congress. BJP's allies the BSR (Congress) and the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP), floated by its former Chief Minister B.S.

The summit would set the stage for the September 2018 United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB, where for the first time, TB would be discussed in the UN General Assembly. Health Minister JP Nadda spelt out the efforts being made by the government of India including cash incentives and nutrition support announced in this year's budget. This plan is backed by a historic funding of over 12,000 crore rupees for the next three years.
