Bathroom hand dryers are spraying poo at you, study finds

Restroom Hand Dryers Suck Up Feces Particles and Spray Them All Over Your Hands
The study suggested that fecal bacteria becomes aerosolized when lidless toilets are flushed, and then hand dryers suck up the germy air and spray it around even more.
The hand dryers were found to be sucking up the impure air inside the washrooms and spraying it back on the hands of the users. What's more, the inside of the dryer nozzles themselves had "minimal bacterial levels".
Though the air coming out of the dryers may be clean to begin with, it pushes around bacteria from the restroom that ends up on your hands, according to a study of 36 men's and women's bathrooms, Business Insider reports.

What's unclear, they admit, is just why the air-blasted plates showed so many more spores.
Researchers say this can cause people to leave bathrooms with potential pathogens on their hands, which can be dispersed throughout buildings. Consequently, this study has implications for the control of opportunistic bacterial pathogens and spores in public environments including healthcare settings.
A new study conducted by researchers in the University of CT showed that hand dryers expel a lot of harmful bacteria back onto your hands. Although that's a lot, it certainly isn't ideal.
This sends faecal particles into the air, where they linger until you turn on the hand dryer.
The scientists also explored the effectiveness of using high-efficiency particulate air filters with the hand dryers.
The research adds to a growing body of evidence showing that hot-air hand dryers have a role in the spread of bacteria-safe and potentially unsafe. But this study showed that adding the filters did not help.
