Prepare for a hammer-blow of childlike glee as the first few hours of this game unfolds majestically before your eyes
The additional content will come via weekly events, the first of which goes live in May and is called The Hungering Deep.
Rare plans to launch regular content and weekly events that will add major features, including items, mechanics and expanded goals.
Looking further down the line, this summer will see a couple of updates with the Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores updates.
"With Sea of Thieves being a game that grows and evolves, we'll be listening to you, our community, throughout". Heading into the back part of 2018, there will be three more updates that players can expect.
Rare break down their content plans in the video above. The only hint given is that it will introduce new rewards and new mechanics.
Beyond that, there are two more major content updates slated to make its way to the game in the summer titled, Cursed Sails and Forsaken Shores, which also carry new AI hazards, gameplay mechanics, as well as rewards.
The Hungering Deep is due in May and will add "a new AI threat" to the game world. It will also introduce a number of new mechanics that will assist players on this adventure, and there will be unique rewards that players can earn as part of this event.
The one thing Rare has constantly reiterated is that players are going to shape how Sea of Thieves continues to grow, it's clearly going to be a community focused project so be vocal about what you're after. These are on the backburner for now while things are added to the game in other areas.
Rare is also deprioritizing the development of some previously announced features: pets, which will let players own parrots, cats and monkeys; and ship captaincy, a system that would allow legendary pirates to become captains of customizable ships. Expect plans to continue to be fluid but always with the goals listed above as a guiding principle.
While these updates still seem somewhat sparse, it's great to see that Microsoft is working towards responding to most of Sea of Thieves early criticism.
