Egypt armed forces foil 'terrorist' plot in central Sinai
The attack was the largest against Egyptian security forces since President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi won a second term in office last month, promising to work for stability and security in Egypt.
The Egyptian military said in a statement that despite its losses, its soldiers managed to return fire and kill 14 of the terrorists during the attack.
The decree said the armed forces and police should take all necessary measures "to confront the threats and funding of terrorism and maintain security throughout the country".
In the confrontation, the security forces foiled the attack by killing all the terrorists, Xinhua news agency reported citing the statement. It also increases their authority to limit freedom of movement.
Egypt has extended an ongoing nationwide state of emergency another three months, starting Saturday 14 April, the official gazette reported late on Friday.

Egypt first imposed the current state of emergency in April 2017 after two church bombings killed at least 45 people.
Saturday's attack came as Egyptian authorities extended a state of emergency for three months, which was first imposed in April of past year after a twin church bombing claimed by Daesh terrorist group that killed dozens. It was extended in July and again in October then January.
