Modi launches Ayushman Bharat

PM Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off the much-anticipated Ayushman Bharat scheme and the first passenger train in the heart of Maoist-affected territory in Chhattisgarh.

These centres will function like family doctors for people in villages", the PM said. Earlier, he launched India's first wellness centre under Ayushman Bharat in Chhattisagrh. Under Ayushman Bharat, the government has chose to transform 1.5 lakh sub health centres to health and wellness centres in a bid to provide comprehensive primary healthcare.

Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (NHPM) dubbed as "Modicare", aims to benefit around 50 crore people (from about 10 crore families) by providing coverage from secondary and many tertiary hospitalizations. "The objective of Ayushman Bharat scheme is to build a healthy, efficient and satisfied new India", he added.

The leaders who graced the occasion were Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of State for Steel Vishnudeo Sai, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal, MP Dinesh Kashyap, Ministers Ajay Chandrakar, Brijmohan Agrawal, Kedar Kashyap, Punnulal Mohle, Prem Prakash Pandey, Rajesh Munat, Ramsheela Sahu, Ramsewak Paikra, Bhaiyyalal Rajwade, Mahesh Gagda, Dayaldas Baghel apart from BJP State President Dharamlal Kaushik and senior party office-bearers.
