Sebastian Vettel: No intention to hold Verstappen back

He's an incredible driver so he just needs to fine tune and take a little bit of aggressivity out, and it's just too much.

It looked like the win would be decided between Mercedes and Ferrari once again, until the safety vehicle handed a strong advantage to Red Bull, whose drivers started cutting through the front-runners at a frantic pace in the closing stages of the race.

Speaking after the race, Verstappen admitted fault in the collision, "I could see he was struggling on the tyres and tried to brake late in the corners".

"I think Ferrari are still going to be very strong tomorrow but with Mercedes today, I think we can race them tomorrow".

The Dutchman said he was "not happy" with his performance, adding: "Those moments happen in your career".

Verstappen, whose teammate Ricciardo put on a superb overtaking display to claim victory, accepted full responsibility.

He damaged his vehicle running wide in the early laps in the opening race in Australia and then spun, losing several places and finishing sixth.

"If this is the start of a new era, then Lewis Hamilton will have to think carefully about whether he signs up to Mercedes for a long-term contract".

Kevin Durant, defending champ Warriors get defensive, beat Spurs in National Basketball Association playoff
Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said they have to be "desperate" in order to tie the series at one game apiece returning to San Antonio. And unlike past year , the Warriors did not need to overcome a 25-point deficit in Game 1 following Leonard's injury.

Verstappen said: "It has been a hard start to the year. But it is a bit hard to judge right now".

Pushed by Sky Sports F1 on whether he needed to be less aggressive, Verstappen replied: "It is easy to comment". Does it mean I have to calm down?

"Obviously I wouldn't mind if it stays there, but I think it will be a tight race amongst the top three teams, and a long, tough race, but obviously it's good to start from the front". "That probably would have been the best idea but unfortunately that happened".

"Ferrari were just way too quick", said Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who was fifth fastest but a hefty 0.701 seconds off Vettel's pace. We had a tailwind down the straight the whole race.

"It was tricky because also the wind was changing, [but] the last lap in Q3 I knew I could step it up". I wasn't going to resist anyway. I lost the rear twice, so I lost a bit of momentum in those places.

"I didn't see him until very late", said Vettel, who retains an 11-point championship lead over Hamilton. I left a bit of room as well.

"Thank you guys, great qualifying, great auto", said Vettel, who also started from pole in Bahrain last weekend, over the team radio. "However, I appreciated the fact he came to me straightway because that's the way to solve things like this, face to face". He didn't. I wasn't sure where he was.

"I guess he misjudged and obviously sort of compromised both of our results". To some degree you can factor in people's mistakes but not always. But this can happen when you have done 300 races. "The judgements are very hard to make inside the vehicle".
