White House: Syria strike decision not yet made

US President Donald Trump shown attending a meeting with senior military leaders at the White House on Monday will not go to Latin America later this week as planned

The combative U.S. president had been expected in Peru for the Summit of the Americas, where he was likely to face protests and awkward meetings with leaders who have bristled at his repeated portrayal of Latino immigrants as rapists and thugs.

"Rosenstein will be forced to choose between turning over material that they'll share with Trump to help him get his story straight or being fired for refusing to help them undermine the rule of law", said Walter Shaub, the former head of the White House's internal ethics watchdog.

Trump says that last Sunday, Syrian President Bashar Assad deployed chemical weapons in what was a "significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very awful regime".

A year ago, he ordered an air strike on a Syrian air base in retaliation for an Assad chemical attack. As a result of this attack at least 70 people died.

The Syrian regime and its backers in Moscow and Tehran have denied the attack took place, or suggested it was a "false flag" operation by rebels.

On Monday, it was revealed that Mueller referred federal prosecutors to obtain a search warrant on Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

"President Trump just finished a meeting with his National Security team to discuss the situation in Syria".

Trump declares 'mission accomplished' in Syria strike
Later, Trump tweeted: "Mission Accomplished". "The point is to make sure there is no proliferation of chemical weapons", he added. A USA spokeswoman said Friday the allies had "proof". "Mission accomplished" is the same phrase former President George W.

His anger had not abated by early on Tuesday. "A TOTAL WITCH HUNT!" the president blasted on Twitter amid news that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents had seized documents pertaining to his dealings with Cohen. Trump himself tweeted that "Attorney-client privilege is dead!"

Trump has vented many times before at what he sees as the utter injustice of the Mueller probe and at his subordinates, like Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

That prompted Democratic members of Congress to push for Mueller to be protected.

Top White House aides are pushing back on a new book from former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey that depicts President Donald Trump as unethical and "untethered to the truth".

Comey is giving interviews about his book, which is expected to be quite critical with respect to Trump and the Russian Federation investigation.

Cohen is at the center of an ongoing saga concerning his $130,000 payment in 2016 to porn actress Stormy Daniels, who has claimed she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006 and received the money as a hush payment. Speaking last month after China removed the two-term limit on its presidency, Trump was full of praise for the idea of a leader continuing indefinitely. Trump's homeland security adviser, Thomas Bossert, exited Tuesday.
