Former working president Pravin Togadia alleged irregularities in the election
After the election, Mr Togadia said they would continue to be the voice of Hindus.
In a big setback for Pravin Togadia, former Himachal Pradesh governor V S Kokje was today elected as VHP's new global president for which voting was held for the first time in over five decades.
Since 2003, Togadia had been the informal leader of the VHP and was appointed to the role of International Working President, the top executive position of the group in 2011. The newly-elected VHP president, VK Kokje, nominated Alok Kumar to replace Togadia as the new global working president of the outfit.
State VHP leaders, however, refrained form expressing their stand on Togadia's proposed fast.
Kokje got 131 votes and defeated incumbent Raghava Reddy who mustered 60 votes.
Trump defends his 'Mission Accomplished' tweet on Syria
Haley's warning comes after American, British and French forces fired over one hundred missiles at the Arab country on Saturday. Hours after the strikes , the Trump administration pledged future action in Syria if Assad continues to use chemical weapons .
Togadia's strong pro-Hindutva remarks were not in sync with Modi who was trying to reinvent himself for a larger national role. "Now we will work with more energy on every issue, including Ram temple", new president V S Kokje said. He added that though associated with the VHP "for the past 32 years", he was "no longer with the organisation". He emphasised his "commitment" to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya, and the imposition of a Uniform Civil Code in the country.
"This blatant anti-Narendra Modi and anti-BJP stance is not the style of the sangh now". He surfaced later to allege that his life was in danger.
All this did not sit well with the RSS.
Togadia, who has made a decision to undertake an indefinite fast from Tuesday, said his "disenchantment" with Prime Minister Narendra Modi began right after the 2002 post-Godhra riots.
"Finally and inevitably, the balance went in favour of Prime Minister Modi and it was decided that an attempt to recapture the VHP would be attempted", said a senior source.
