Syria's Assad Welcomes Russian Politicians As Trump Defends "Mission Accomplished"

Trump mocked for 'Mission Accomplished!' tweet

President Trump 'Mission Accomplished'

He said the phrase is "such a great Military term".

Two sites were targeted west of Homs and one site was targeted in Damascus.

The Pentagon said three primary targets, including a research centre and weapons storage site, were hit. The U.N. Safety Council met to debate the strikes, however rejected a Russian decision calling for condemnation of the "aggression" by the three Western allies.

Trump didn't seem to care, or know that the phrase was a political minefield, when he deployed it on Saturday.

However, Syria claimed that 110 missiles were launched in the strikes, and the country's defense systems intercepted a lot of them.

Though officers mentioned the singular goal was Assad's chemical weapons functionality, his air drive, together with helicopters he allegedly has used to drop chemical weapons on civilians, had been spared.

"The President must come to Congress and secure an Authorization for Use of Military Force by proposing a comprehensive strategy with clear objectives that keep our military safe and avoid collateral damage to innocent civilians", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, said in a statement Friday night.

Assad denies he has used chemical weapons, and the Trump administration has but to current exhausting proof of what it says precipitated the allied missiles assault: a chlorine gasoline assault on civilians in Douma on April 7.

Damaging winds, flooding rains, tornadoes possible Saturday
There will likely be a sharp gradient north of the heavy snow band, according to the weather service. The entire Midlands area and parts of the Lowcountry are under a lake wind advisory until 8 p.m.

"We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents", the U.S. president said in a televised address.

In his televised address from the White House on Friday, Trump said the USA was prepared to keep up the economic, diplomatic and military pressure on Assad until he ends a pattern of killing his own people with internationally banned chemical weapons. The Syrian air defenses missed the incoming missiles and kept firing even after the last US, British and French strikes were complete. In a US military action a year ago in response to a sarin gas attack, the Pentagon said missiles took out almost 20 per cent of the Syrian air force.

A former officer in Syria's chemical program, Adulsalam Abdulrazek, said Saturday the joint U.S., British, and French strikes hit "parts of but not the heart" of the program.

While there appears to be no immediate alternative to the so-called Geneva Process that would lead to a political transition in Syria, several senior USA officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted it has failed and it was time to rethink. That did not mean military strikes would continue.

Haley appeared on "Fox News Sunday" and CBS' "Face the Nation".

White stood by Trump's assessment of "mission accomplished".

Several U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was not a priority for the administration to push out Assad, who has survived with massive aid from Iran and Russian Federation.
