Watch the First 4 Minutes of Fear the Walking Dead
Season 8 of The Walking Dead ended Sunday night with the zombie-apocalypse drama's two warring factions facing off in a field. But "Wrath" brings both groups out into an open field for the battle between the Saviors and Rick's group - or, rather, the battle between Rick and Negan. We see Maggie, Jesus, and Daryl meeting about how they disagree with Rick's decision, and plan on building up Hilltop's strength so they can, it sounds like, take Negan from Rick by force.
As he and Eugene headed off to whup Rick's ass, Negan "confessed" to his prisoner, Father Gabriel, that he had sacrificed some of his own people to set a trap for Rick. Negan had seemingly won, but Rick made a plea regarding Carl's vision for the future - and the role Negan could play - that gave him pause, allowing Rick to cut his throat. Except when Rick et al got to that spot expecting to ambush Negan they heard his familiar whistle seemingly coming from all sides. Siddiq tells Rick that Carl died paying respects to a women he never knew. But otherwise it's just going to be Jeffrey Dean Morgan sitting in a cell until his eventual release or escape, which isn't going to be that much fun to watch on TV (just another of many things that will get lost in translation with that character). It looked as if we'd be in for at least a couple of episodes to wait for them all to reunite, a plot device Walking Dead viewers are unfortunately familiar with. "So I think it is ultimately a story about restraint rather than revenge and love rather than hate, which has always been integral to our show".
After cruelly slashing the throat of a Savior who was trying to surrender, Morgan took some advice from Jesus and started merely knocking out his foes instead of killing them.
This would've marked one of the more major departures the show's made from its source material as Negan survives in the comics to be imprisoned in Alexandria. He tells her to tell Henry that he's going to be okay.
He's last seen talking to Jadis - or should we call her Anne now? - at the junkyard, convincing her to go to Hilltop and work with Rick. When discussing which characters he would like to come back, McDermitt said he'd like to star alongside John Bernthal (Shane Walsh) because they never worked together on the show. We'll also see some other big changes. But Rick and Michonne, Rick was wrong to do what he did. The Walking Dead season 8 finale might have wrapped up all the storylines it had with a tidy, twee little bow, but that doesn't stop it from feeling disappointing anticlimactic.
While we still don't know which character will be crossing over along with Morgan, several media outlets are speculating the involvement of characters like Norman Reedus' Daryl, Corey Hawkins' Heath and Lauran Cohan's Maggie. Not right away, of course, but in the near future things are going to get awkward between Rick and Maggie.
Tonight The Walking Dead came to what was a pretty solid conclusion after a season that didn't really build momentum for much of it. It's unlikely we'll see that in the show; Daryl threatens Dwight that he'll kill him if he ever returns, and this Dwight's only interest seems to be to find Sherry.
Do you think we'll have a big time jump when the show comes back?
