Boston Dynamics Plans to Start Selling Their Robot Dog 'SpotMini' Year

Former Google robotics outfit Boston Dynamics, famed for its advanced humanoid and canine automatons, has announced that it will begin sale of its headless robotic SpotMini next year. With no way to open it, the robot dog just stands there, waiting.

What's so unnerving is the way that it runs, completely non-plussed by the rough terrain and even leaping over any obstacles that get in its way.

"The SpotMini robot is one that was motivated by thinking about what could go in an office - in a space more accessible for business applications - and then, the home eventually", Raibert said onstage.

The result? Spot aces it, including some particularly challenging stairs, and all while looking like a training video for the actual "Black Mirror" episode we mentioned above.

Speaking at the TechCrunch Robotics Sessions conference at UC Berkeley Raibert said that the SpotMini is already in pre-production. Clearly, the company is making progress with its next generation robots and how they can navigate the world.

Thousands forced from their homes as flooding hits BC Interior
In Okanagan Falls the residents of more than 50 properties were forced to flee after the banks spilled along Shuttleworth Creek. Rivers are expected to rise by mid-week, reaching levels close to those experienced Thursday, the district said.

No word yet on when the robot will be available for purchase. On the company's website, the robot is described as "a small four-legged robot that comfortably fits in an office or home".

After 26 years, Boston Dynamics is finally getting ready to start selling some robots. The device weighs around 66 pounds and can operate for about 90 minutes on a charge.

In the first SpotMini video from 2016, we're shown the original robot performing various chores around the house, including loading up the dishwasher and throwing away trash.

Founded in 1992, Boston Dynamics rarely reveals its plans except by posting YouTube videos that have impressed and terrified people. Atlas, for example, has the remarkable ability to perform a ideal backflip, though it's not always so steady on its feet.
